Introducing a Prescribing

Paramedic Practitioner

Recently the AEAV held information sessions on the concept of the prescribing paramedic practitioner (PPP) model.  Feedback has been extremely positive.

The AEAV is seeking expressions of interests from paramedics located throughout the state to join the Prescribing Paramedic Practitioner Working Group.  The Working Group of like-minded paramedics interested in progressing the prescribing paramedic practitioner into actual paramedical clinical practice.

The Working Group’s role is to;

• Confirm a model of prescribing paramedic practitioner practice
• Confirm the educational requirements of prescribing paramedic practitioner practice
• Provide advice to Universities developing paramedic practitioner programs
• Identify University courses that are available for paramedics to achieve the knowledge and skills to become a prescribing paramedic practitioner
• To identify existing paramedics with practitioners qualifications who would be suitable to take up the prescribing paramedic practitioner role
• Identify legislation and what changes would be required to allow the prescribing paramedic practitioner to operate in Victoria
• Guide the AEAV in negotiating the conversion of the Paramedic Community Support Co-Ordinator (PCSC) into a prescribing paramedic practitioner role
• Encourage and support research and trials evaluating the PPP model
• Provide advice and leadership to the AEAV, Government, Paramedic Profession, Employers and other stakeholders
