AEAV AV RECRUITMENT UPDATE – 17 DECEMBER 2019
On Friday the 6th of December 2019 the AEAV sent a letter to Ambulance Victoria CEO, Tony Walker, regarding the current recruitment procedures. A copy of the letter is available here.
On Monday the 16th of December 2019 the AEAV received a response from Rebecca Hodges, Ambulance Victoria’s Executive Director – People and Culture. A copy of the response is available here.
In the response Ms. Hodges stated:
“AV recruitment and selection activity is… consistent with the VPSC ‘Best Practice Recruitment and Selection toolkit’” (See the toolkit here)
Ms. Hodges rejected our request to refer the recruitment process to VPSC, stating:
“Given AV’s compliance with the VPSC best practice principles, we reject the claim that we have not adhered to section 62 of the Act and refute the need to refer our recruitment processes for review under section 63 of the Act”.
This response is disappointing at best. Given AV’s commitment to improving the mental health of staff, AEAV sees the VPSC review process as an opportunity for AV to ensure that the process has minimal impact on employee’s mental health.
AEAV has spoken to numerous members and non-members over recent weeks who have provided specific examples which call into question AV’s compliance with the Victorian Public Sector Commission (VPSC) employment standards.
AEAV is establishing a working party to prepare a submission to the VPSC to highlight the faults in AV’s recruitment process. To be a part of the working party, or to make a submission to AEAV detailing your experiences with AV’s recruitment process, please email AEAVbriefVPSC@unitedworkers.org.au
The submission will be prepared by paramedics, for paramedics and the results will be presented to the VPSC by paramedics. . AEAV are committed to maintaining your confidentiality and will not disclose your details to AV without express written consent.
